Dales Traditional Butchers awarded prestigious Q Guild status!
As you begin your walk along Market Street, in Kirkby Lonsdale, the first shop you’ll venture across is that of Dales Traditional Butchers. Owner, Mark Duckworth has spent more than 30 years honing his butchery skills and took over the running of the business 18 years ago.
Renowned for selling only the highest quality meat and for producing a wide variety of award-winning pies and sausages, Dales Traditional Butchers has justifiably earned an excellent reputation with local customers, as well as with many of the visitors attracted to this bustling market town.
The Q Guild represents some of the highest quality butchers in the UK and, as well as being able to demonstrate first rate butchery skills, becoming a member requires close attention to provenance (sourcing only British meat) and to customer service, being able to offer a good variety of cuts and pre-prepared products.
With more than 6,000 butchers operating across the UK, Mark is justifiably proud for getting Dales Traditional Butchers accepted as one of only 121 Q Guild members. Speaking of the award, Mark said, “We’ve always been mindful of where we source our meat… The beef we sell is mainly from heritage breeds, such as Shorthorn and Highland, and reared on nearby farms. Our Saddleback cross pork is reared only a mile or so away from the shop, at Pump House Farm, whereas, the lamb is all reared in Cumbria and, when available, includes Herdwick and salt marsh lamb.”
